Pharmacologically induced penile Doppler ultrasound is an imaging examination that allows assessment of arterial inflow and venous outflow in the penis after administration of a vasoactive drug.
The method is used for diagnosing vascular erectile dysfunction and helps determine whether the problem is related to blood circulation. The examination is performed using an ultrasound device in Doppler mode.
Indications
- Erectile dysfunction
- Suspected vascular disorders
- Penile trauma
- Peyronie’s disease
- Postoperative evaluation
- Preoperative assessment for surgical treatment
- Monitoring therapy effectiveness
Procedure / Duration
Initially, a standard ultrasound examination of the penile vessels is performed at rest. A vasoactive drug is then administered to induce an erection, followed by a series of Doppler measurements of blood flow at specified intervals.
- Procedure duration: 30–60 minutes
- Outpatient procedure
- The report is provided after completion of the examination
Contraindications
- Allergy or intolerance to the administered drug
- Severe blood coagulation disorders
- Acute inflammatory processes in the examined area
- Psycho-emotional instability preventing the procedure
Relative contraindications are assessed individually by the physician.
Rehabilitation / Restrictions
- Slight pain at the injection site may occur
- In rare cases, erection may persist for longer - the patient receives instructions from the physician
- No special rehabilitation required
Clinic Advantages
- Modern expert-class ultrasound equipment
- Experienced urologists and ultrasound specialists
- Confidentiality and delicate approach
