The Basic Renal Profile is a laboratory test panel designed to evaluate kidney function and detect potential disorders at an early stage.

The kidneys play a vital role in maintaining the body’s internal balance: they filter blood, remove metabolic waste products, regulate fluid and electrolyte balance, and help control blood pressure.

The Basic Renal Profile combines blood and urine tests that allow assessment of the kidneys’ filtration and excretory capacity and help detect early signs of inflammation or metabolic disturbances.

Test components

Creatinine
A metabolic byproduct produced in muscle tissue and eliminated by the kidneys. Blood creatinine level is one of the main indicators of kidney filtration function.

Urea
The final product of protein metabolism, excreted by the kidneys. Measuring urea helps evaluate the kidneys’ ability to remove metabolic waste.

Uric acid
A product of purine metabolism. Elevated levels may indicate metabolic disorders, gout, or decreased kidney excretory function.

Total protein (serum)
Reflects the total concentration of proteins in blood plasma. This parameter helps assess metabolic processes and may indicate protein loss through the kidneys.

Biochemical urinalysis with sediment examination
Allows evaluation of the physical, chemical, and microscopic characteristics of urine. The test helps detect proteins, red blood cells, white blood cells, bacteria, and other signs of inflammation or pathological processes in the urinary system.

Indications

The Basic Renal Profile is recommended in the following cases:

• swelling of the face, hands, or legs
• changes in urination frequency or volume
• pain or discomfort in the lower back area
• elevated blood pressure
• persistent fatigue or weakness

The test is also recommended for:

• patients with diabetes mellitus
• individuals with arterial hypertension
• people with cardiovascular diseases
• individuals with a family history of kidney disease
• people over 60 years of age
• preventive health check-ups.

Procedure

The examination includes blood and urine testing.

Blood sampling is performed by venipuncture and takes only a few minutes. For the urine test, the first morning urine sample should be collected in a sterile container according to medical instructions.
